Car driving lessons — automatic and manual — are available in Queensland only.
Car driving lessons — automatic and manual — are available in Queensland only. We do not offer car lessons in New South Wales.
Our truck courses (MR, HR and HC) are available in both Queensland and New South Wales.
Car Driving Licence Training (Automatic or Manual) is conducted in Auto/Manual car model, air-conditioned, easy to operate vehicles. If you’ve got a specific preference for an instructor let us know once you make your booking, so our office will do their utmost to accommodate you.
1 hour with us = 3 hours in your logbook
Queensland gives learner drivers bonus logbook credit for lessons taken with a professional instructor. It’s the fastest legitimate way to close out your required hours.
“Every hour of your daytime driving with an accredited trainer counts for 3 hours in your logbook—up to a maximum of 10 actual hours or 30 logbook hours.”
Ten hours of lessons with us gets you 30 of your 100 hours — almost a third, done properly, with someone teaching you rather than sitting beside you hoping for the best.
Worth knowing: a night-time lesson with a trainer counts as either triple time or night hours — not both. Queensland requires 10 night hours, and those can’t be tripled. Do your bonus hours in daylight and bank your night hours with your supervisor. We’ll plan this out with you in your first lesson so you don’t waste credit.
The car you’re tested in decides what you’re licensed to drive.
| You’re tested in | Your Queensland licence | You may drive |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic | Issued as class CA — automatic only | Automatic cars only |
| Manual | Class C, no transmission condition | Automatic and manual |
There’s no shortcut here: if you’re licensed on an automatic and later want to drive a manual, you sit the practical driving test again in a manual car, at full cost.
Our honest advice. If you have a specific automatic car waiting for you and no interest in manuals, test in an automatic — it’s a simpler test and you’ll likely get there faster. If you’re a young driver, if you might need a work vehicle, ute or van, or if you’d like to drive overseas without restrictions, learn manual. It costs a few more lessons now and saves a whole test later.
Already hold an automatic-only licence? We run manual upgrade lessons. Call us.
Step 1 — Get your learner licence
You must be at least 16 years old and pass the road rules test. You can do this two ways:
Your learner licence is valid for 3 years.
Step 2 — Log your hours
If you’re under 25, you must record 100 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night (between sunset and sunrise), in a learner logbook.
If you’re 25 or over, you don’t need to submit a logbook at all.
This is where our lessons do the heavy lifting — see Triple your logbook hours.
Step 3 — Pass the hazard perception test
“From 1 July 2021 you must pass the hazard perception test before you can take your practical driving test.”
You must have held your learner licence for at least 6 months before you can sit it. It’s an online test — book it early, because it’s a hard stop on your test booking.
Step 4 — Pass the practical driving test
To apply for a P1 licence you must:
Retest waiting periods if you’re unsuccessful: you can re-sit the next day after a first attempt, after 8 days following a second, and after 29 days following a third or subsequent attempt. A fee applies each time.
Arrive 20 minutes early. Arriving late, or presenting an unsuitable vehicle, means the test is cancelled and the fee is not refunded.
Step 5 — P1, P2, open
Hold P1 for at least 1 year, then upgrade to P2. If you’re 25 or over you skip P1 entirely and go straight to P2.
To every lesson:
To your practical driving test, also bring:
We supply the car — registered, roadworthy, insured, dual-controlled and L-plated.
If you’re using your own car, it must be:
You cannot sit a car test on a motorcycle or moped.

We’ll recommend the centre that suits where you’ve been practising. Testing somewhere you’ve never driven is one of the most common avoidable reasons people fail.
Eligibility: Getting a licence
We start by assessing where you actually are. Some people come to us having never sat in the driver’s seat; others have 80 logbook hours and one bad habit stopping them from passing. We plan your lessons around your experience and your schedule, not a fixed syllabus.
In our experience, two sessions a week works best for most people. Enough repetition that skills stick, enough gap that you can practise with a supervisor in between.
You’ll be taught by an experienced instructor — male or female, your choice — working across Logan, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Our instructors make lessons something you look forward to rather than dread, which matters more than it sounds: nervous drivers learn slowly.
Pick-up and drop-off from home, work or school within our service area.
Do you teach car lessons in New South Wales? No. Our car driving lessons, automatic and manual, are Queensland only. Our truck courses — MR, HR and HC — are available in both Queensland and New South Wales.
How many lessons will I need? It depends entirely on where you’re starting from. A learner with 60 or 70 supervised hours might need two or three lessons to sharpen up for the test. Someone starting from zero should think in terms of ten or more, spread over a few months alongside supervised practice. We’ll give you an honest assessment after your first lesson.
Is it true that one lesson counts as three hours? Yes. “Every hour of your daytime driving with an accredited trainer counts for 3 hours in your logbook—up to a maximum of 10 actual hours or 30 logbook hours.”
Can I get triple credit for night lessons? Not both ways. A night lesson counts as either triple time or night hours. Since you need 10 night hours in Queensland and those can’t be tripled, take your bonus lessons in daylight and log night hours with your supervisor.
Do I have to do 100 hours? Only if you’re under 25. Over 25 and you don’t need to submit a logbook at all.
What’s the hazard perception test and when do I do it? It’s an online test of your ability to spot and respond to developing road hazards, and you must pass it before your practical driving test. You must have held your learner licence for at least 6 months before sitting it. Book it early — it catches a lot of people out.
Automatic or manual — which should I learn in? If you’re tested in an automatic, your licence is issued as class CA and you can only drive automatics. Manual gives you both. Unless you’re certain you’ll only ever drive automatics, learn manual.
I have an automatic licence. Can I upgrade to manual? Yes — you sit the practical driving test again in a manual car. We run manual lessons for exactly this.
Do you supply the car for the test? Yes. Our test packages include use of our dual-control car for the practical driving test.
Do you pick me up? Yes, from home, work or school within our service area. Tell us where you’ll be.
Can I have a female instructor? Yes. Ask when you book and we’ll arrange it.
What happens if I fail the test? You can re-sit the next day after a first attempt, after 8 days following a second, and after 29 days following a third or subsequent attempt. A fee applies each time. We’d rather put in another lesson than send you into a test you’re not ready for.
I’m on an overseas licence — do I need to do this? It depends which country issued it and how long you’ve been here. Call us and we’ll point you to the right pathway.
Call 0432 453 553 — Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Tell us your age, how many logbook hours you’ve got and whether you want automatic or manual, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s involved.
