TLIC4006 Drive multi-combination vehicle

This unit is designed to equip trainees with the skills and knowledge required to drive a multicombination vehicle safely, including maintaining systematic and efficient control of all vehicle functions, coupling and uncoupling dollies, monitoring traffic and road conditions, managing vehicle condition and performance, and effectively managing hazardous situations.

Driving must comply with the licence requirements and regulations of the Queensland Roads and Traffic Authority pertaining to multi-combination vehicles. Driving is performed with limited or minimum supervision, with limited accountability and responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes.

Driving involves the application of routine vehicle driving principles and procedures to maintain the safety and operation of a commercial multi-combination vehicle across various driving contexts.

Minimum driver licence class requirements for an applicant to be eligible to undertake TLIC4006 Drive multicombination vehicle (e.g., heavy rigid (HR) or heavy combination (HC) class). You must have held this license for a period of 12 months minimum at the time of application.

Entry Requirements

Although the training product does not state any entry requirements, Elite has the following entry requirements in place for candidates applying to undertake this unit of competency: 

  • be at least 18 years old.
  •  must have held your heavy rigid (class HR) or heavy combination (class HC) licence for at least 1 year (unless the exemption stated below applies*).
  •  Must undertake an LLN assessment and demonstrate satisfactory levels to participate in the training and assessment (refer to further details provided in the student support section.
  • In certain circumstances, you may get an exemption letter from TMR for this requirement by demonstrating that you held an overseas driver’s license equivalent to a QLD licence class. You must present the actual letter issued by TMR, which will be retained by Elite as evidence of your eligibility to participate in this course

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements of an MC Vehicle Driver can be very demanding, and it is expected that the prospective learners will have a reasonable level of fitness to perform the following tasks:

  •  Constant hand function (fine and gross) and lifting waist to overhead and carrying up to 2kg
  •  Frequent standing, forward reaching, overhead reaching and static neck postures; 
  •  Frequent lifting from floor to overhead and carrying from 2kg to 15kg;
  •  Frequent pushing and pulling;

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

You must bring your own PPE for training and assessment. You will not be allowed to attend training and/or assessment without the following PPE: 

  • High visibility vest
  • Enclosed shoes 
  • Gloves (recommended but not mandatory)

 Elite Trainers and Assessors will have a number of High Visibility Vests available but it is recommended you bring your own due to hygiene and safety requirements.

  • Manage a vehicle’s condition and its performance.
